Round Robin Challenge: Mailboxes

The challenge this week is "Mailboxes".


Waiting For The Mail, a sculpture by Lowell Davis. He is most famous for his detailed porcelain sculptures of domesticated farm animals and says:

I think the animals were the magic of my work. I have a dog that paid for this entire farm. Just an old dog that I bought for a dollar at a pound. She had mange and blisters all over. They were going to destroy her that afternoon. I said, "I’ll take that one." She went to all my shows with me. I used her in four figurines and eleven plates. The very first figurine I did was the dog sitting by the mailbox. It was an instant hit. She made me tons of money. I still give her a little credit for paying for the farm. In fact, that’s why I put a paw print on my work.

I have quite a few of his sculptures, used to collect them in my 20s :-)

Pink Lady Slipper

Took Wolf for a walk in the woods today and saw these lovely rare pink Lady Slippers!

Round Robin Challenge: Pink

The challenge this week is "Pink".


Pink rose: When Mom was in the nursing home, someone gave her a HUGE bouquet of flowers, and there were these beautiful pink roses
Lost doll: Took this shot for my friend Krista, she loves dollies ;-) This particular one was just laying on Hampton beach, all by itself.
Target: This shot was taken at a resort in the Bahamas...I just loved that it looked like a target LOL!
Pink dog: Poor lil lost doggie, took this in Newburyport, MA

I love this picture of Diane and Bailey! They look so relaxed and happy :-)

the leaves are coming out!

Looks a bit like a hanging bat, doesn't it? Or is it only me? :-)

Skunk cabbage

This is skunk cabbage; so called because if you tear off a leaf, a pungent odor is released. If you don't touch it, it's just a pretty green leafy plant, eh? It's not poisonous, and the odor attracts insects to pollinate it. It's said the odor may also discourage large animals from disturbing or damaging the plant, which typically grows near wetlands.

the tiniest of things

There was a hiking group behind me, laughing and talking and making a TON of noise...but I lost myself in shooting this picture and they went away :-)
