The weekend so far...

Born 9 October 1940; murdered 8 December 1980 at the age of 40 :-(

I could never choose my favorite Beatle...it's always been a tie between John and George. What I loved about John was his wit and his artistry, he was irreverent, rebellious...what was not to like?

When he was killed outside the Dakota in NYC, I was living in a bus in the back of my boyfriend's father's sawdust factory. We woke up that morning, cold and shivering. He turned the bus on for heat...and I turned on the radio. We both froze when we heard and I felt a chill that was far deeper than the cold day outside. All that talent, snuffed out in a second. I still miss him and always will.
He died the day before my Mom's 57th birthday...and today would've been Mom's 84th. I miss her, too.

Also, last night I went to see Hall & Oates with Megan & Jimbo.

They were great, Daryl's voice was in fine form, and they started out their set with some Christmas carols from their new CD, seen above. Apparently, some in the crowd thought this was past wrong, and after about the 6th song, they began booing the band. Now...what the hell were they expecting? It's the Christmas season. All around us people were screaming out the names of songs they wanted them to play, plus such niceties as "Daryl, you suck" etc., etc. The band took a break, then came back out and performed many of their hits as the crowd went wild. It struck me as very disrespectful and unkind.

After the show as the crowd was leaving, a couple of guys smacked the tour bus sitting out there and expressed their displeasure at not hearing "Maneater" or "One on One"; then discussed where'd they go to drink for the rest of the evening. The hell?

I was in a school music class when I heard...

And wow, I'm really appalled by the behavior of the crowd last night. That sucks.

The crowd sounds really awful, like they really needed to grow up!

Hug for you missing your mom :(

What a bittersweet day for you. Hugs to you!

It's amazing that it's been that long since John was killed. Time passes so quickly.

I'm no Hall and Oates fan, but that really was disrespectful. I wonder what's wrong with people.

I was driving home from work, heard it on the radio. Had to stop the car before I crashed it.
Growing up in Liverpool, as I did, you couldn't escape The Beatles. John was/is my hero.

The world is full of louts, Janet. When I used to write my column, I was amazed at how the cretins of the world would always find their way out of the woodwork to visit their ill-targeted scorn on me. Then they'd slither back from whence they came, never to be heard from again.

Sadly, there's a never-ending supply of 'em.

Glad you had fun regardless.

I'm sorry to hear you had to put up with idiots at the concert. People can be so rude!

Sending out good thoughts to you on this day of remembering your mom~~~~~~

I love this photo. Thanks for the jolt. John was my favorite and I miss his music.

As for Hall and Oates..that's awful! People can be so mean and cruel.

It was my 17th birthday, and my boyfriend refused to take me out that night, so I was already in a sulky pet. When I heard the news on the radio, at first I thought it was a sick ghastly joke. Thanks to one of my uncles who introduced me to the Beatles by giving me cassette tapes of all their albums when I turned 15, I had listened to virtually no music except the Beatles for the two years before John died. He was always my favourite. I was really sad that his life was taken from him when he'd started doing some truly amazing new work.

I tried to play the video you linked from YouTube, but I couldn't get through it. The emotions are just as strong today as they were 27 years ago. I'm with you: it was never a favorite, but a john/george thing. Odd that they were the first two to go.
Somehow, though, even at 42, I still say: Give peace a chance. . . .

Happy Birthday/Remembrance Day to your mother. I have been thinking about you and loss during this holiday season. I truly think it can seem extra difficult to deal with grief and remembrance during seasons that are so much about family and togetherness. You certainly honor her memory with your remembrance.
